The Lakehead Social Planning Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and United Way have been discussing how the many “tables” and strategies and initiatives and organizations in Thunder Bay that are working toward the betterment of our community, improved quality of life and eradication of poverty, might be inspired to come together to explore opportunities to collaborate, support one another and promote collective action toward addressing issues and advancing shared interests.
In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and United Way, we are a presenting a #TBay Community Cross-Sector Collaboration Forum on November 28 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Urban Abbey to bring under one roof representatives from the private, public and non-profit sectors to identify specific actions that we as a community can get behind to make Thunder Bay more connected, more inclusive, more prosperous and free from the debilitating effects of issues facing our community.
Our draft goal statement: To bring business, government, academia and community organizations together to improve lives and build a healthier, more inclusive and prosperous community for all.
We are aiming to have representatives from all sectors participate and to have Conversational Leads assist in facilitating various round table discussions. Proposed table topics include poverty reduction, education & literacy, housing security, diversity, social inclusion, crime & safety, drugs & addictions, mental health, employment & training, healthy aging, income security, food security. Participants would be invited to engage with one of the topics to help generate ideas and articulate specific actions that we can realistically commit to advancing – promoting and fostering a collective impact approach, possibly with financial support from the United Way, government agencies and other potential funding partners.
